She lost her beloved Leon two days before Christmas last year.

But June Bernicoff has found comfort in the lovely messages from Gogglebox fans who remembered her well-loved sofa companion on the first anniversary of his death, on Sunday.

On Christmas Eve, the 83-year-old warned her followers that it could be a lonely time for some, one year after spending it on her own for the first time the week after Leon died.

June tweeted: Thank you to all you lovely people who sent messages today, remembering Leon. It is so comforting to know how much he was loved. Thank you!

She had spent 60 years with Leon, first meeting when she was just 18 at a dance at a teacher training college in 1955. They went on to have two daughters together.

But it wasnt until retirement age that the couple found notoriety on Channel 4 reality show Gogglebox.

They were quickly welcomed into the nations hearts and became one of the most popular families on the show.

Now, their love story has inspired June to write a book called Leon And June: A Lifetime of Love and Laughter, dedicated to their happy memories of 1960s Liverpool, to building a loving home and family together, before finding fame as pensioners.
