The Punisher season two doesnt take into account the events of Avengers: Infinity War according to creator Steven Lightfoot.

Lightfoot said he wrote the new season in a bubble and couldnt include Infinity Wars devastating snap as Marvel were being secretive about the events of the film as it was being made.

So when the show returns later this month, everyone there shouldnt be anyone who has suddenly been reduced to ash.

Lightfoot told Inverse: I sort of sit there and write my show in a little bubble, and the guys at Marvel are good at steering me with that.

The truth is with these shows take a year to make. Infinity War probably wasnt finished, certainly wasnt out, when I started writing the show, and as we know Marvel is secretive.

I didnt even know what happened in Infinity War. It would have been very difficult for anyone to talk about it.

The trailer for season two revealed Jigsaw would be a key villain after Frank Castle smashed Billy Russos face into a jagged mirror, leaving him scarred and earning the classic comic book alias.

The trailer also confirms the previously leaked release date of 18 January, which is a mere two weeks away.

Jigsaw isnt the only new villain in The Punishers second outing, with Christian Fundamentalist John Pilgrim (Josh Stewart) also looking to cause trouble for Frank Castle.

Speaking about his character, Stewart said: You can look at the stereotypes of what Christian fundamentalism is, and your imagination can run pretty wild.

I think there are some elements of that, maybe. Whats true is true, to him; whats right is right, to him; and what God says is what God says, to him.

The Punisher season two releases on Netflix 18 January 2019.
