Usually, the host network of an awards show takes as many opportunities as possible to promote its own content. Hence Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Andy Samberg, who is emceeing the Golden Globes as his show prepares to make its new home on NBC. But other networks would also be remiss if they didnt take advantage of the TV fans who have their eyes glued to their show, either via the screen or social media. Netflix did so by loosing some snarky tweets—but HBO brought out the big guns by releasing some hotly anticipated Game of Thrones Season 8 footage. Its not much more than the split second that debuted last summer, but the footage does give some insight into how the season may kick off.

When footage aired of Sansa looking warily over Jon Snows shoulder last August, many fans suspected she might be aiming her not-so-welcoming stare at Jons new girlfriend, Daenerys Targaryen. But a report in Entertainment Weekly seemingly confirmed those suspicions when it said: “How [Sansa and Daenerys] get along drives much of the drama this season (O.K., heres one specific tease from the premiere—Sansa isnt thrilled that Jon bent the knee to his fancy new Targaryen girlfriend, at least not at first).”

Here now we can see that acrimony with our own eyes, as Sansa icily speaks the first line we have heard from this season: “Winterfell is yours, Your Grace.” Brrrrrrrr. Jon doesnt look too happy with Sansas behavior, either. Meanwhile, Ser Jorah looks downright fetching in his winter-ready coat and as does the dragon Viserion with his icy new scales. Theres also a dramatic shot here of Drogon going to battle over a group of charging Dothraki, but that may be recycled footage from last years episode, “Spoils of War.” Only time will tell. If that is brand-new dragon footage, though, the lack of snow on the ground signals something we probably already knew: Danys fight against the Night King wont be the only war this season. We all forget Cersei Lannister at our peril.

And speaking of other things that deserve our attention, this HBO promo had more than mere Game of Thrones footage to show off. Theres the first footage from Damon Lindelofs Watchmen featuring an imperious Jeremy Irons as an aged up Ozymandias. The network is flaunting its entire 2019 lineup, which also includes new seasons of True Detective, Big Little Lies, Barry, Veep and more.
