Game of Thrones iconic title credit is ever so symbolic – but it might not be the intro that we have all grown to love today.
The iconic animated sequence was something entirely different in the early stages of the hit HBO shows introduction.
We all know the signature tune and the short film inside out, but according to designer Angus Wall, the shows original plan was to insert maps between scenes as interstitials.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly ahead of the eighth and final season, Angus explained why the team ended up changing their mind.
It broke up the narrative in the most horrible way, he said. But we realised there was a need to tell the geography of the world – in the same way that a legend would for a book.
That became the title sequence.
We dont blame them at all, as just thinking about the idea of interweaving map cards throughout the episode does sound a little bit annoying.

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that Game Of Thrones will live on for one more week as its been revealed the show will air a two-hour documentary, taking fans behind-the-scenes of its eighth season.
Its not long now until were reunited with our favourite Iron Throne contenders and while on one hand, were excited to immerse ourselves back into the world of Westeros, our hearts are breaking at the thought of it all coming to a cold, cold end.
But HBO has assured fans that theyll get one more hit from the show in the form of documentary Game Of Thrones: The Last Watch.
