The Australian rugby union authorities have terminated their contract with full-back Israel Folau after he posted a homophobic picture on social media.

The image, shared with his 338,000 followers on Instagram, said that hell awaits homosexuals, and likened them to drunks, adulterers and liars.

Folau, 30, was found to have committed a high-level breach of the Professional Players Code of Conduct by Rugby Australias integrity unit.
