Laura Donnelly is officially lined up to star in Joss Whedons new sci-fi series The Nevers.
The creator of Buffy The Vampire Slayer is returning to the small-screen for a new science fiction drama revolved around a group of Victorian women with unusual abilities – as they tackle a mission which might change the world.
Its been confirmed (via Deadline) UK actress Laura Donnelly will play lead character Amalia True, who is described as a menace to stuffy Victorian society and a damaged hero.
Speaking about the hiring, Whedon said: Laura Donnelly has charisma, wisdom and an anarchic precision that not only captures Amalia but defines her.
Shes fierce and shes funny – and I need both for the journey ahead.
Confirming the news on Twitter, Donnelly wrote: Im so thrilled to finally be able to announce this!

The Nevers is co-written by Whedon alongside fellow former Buffy writers Jane Espenson and Doug Petrie, who also act as executive producers.

If youre unfamiliar, Donnelly is most known as Jenny Fraser in TV series Outlander, and has also starred in Britannia, The Fall, Missing and Merlin.
She is also set to star in upcoming biopic Tolkien alongside Nicholas Hoult and Lily Collins.
