A detective interrupted his own news conference to complete a textbook tackle on a suspect.

Detective Senior Sergeant Daren Edwards quickly ended a media briefing outside an Australian magistrates court after hearing shouts behind him.

The former rugby player launched himself at the 39-year-old man who had been accused of making inappropriate comments to a teenage girl.

After other coppers arrived, Edwards simply brushed off his heroics and continued with a piece to camera.

Edwards heard screaming behind him and saw a man in a red hoodie running away from an irate father.

The dad could be heard shouting run and then saying he is being inappropriate to my daughter.
