The race to reboot Red Sonja has resumed with a surprising new creative vision at the helm. Jill Soloway, best known as writer-creator and showrunner of Amazons Transparent, has taken over the Millenium superheroine project, and will write and direct a project previously set up with Bryan Singer.

Deadline confirms that Soloways take on the character will follow work on the upcoming Transparent musical finale. “I cant wait to bring Red Sonjas epic world to life,” Soloway said of the project. “Exploring this powerful mythology and evolving what it means to be a heroine is an artistic dream come true.”

Millenium Flims has been angling to relaunch the character on film for some time now, and stirred significant controversy with Januarys announcement of Bryan Singers attachment to the project. The initial announcement emerged after Singer was fired from directing Bohemian Rhapsody over alleged conflicts and absence from the set. Reports and accusations of sexual misconduct had also dogged Singer for years (he has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing), and came to a head with The Atlantics publishing of a long investigation into his behavior. Millenium dropped Singer from Red Sonja the following month.
