After the season nine finale teed up war with the Whisperers, the show looks to deliver with beachside battles and unexpected romances – but heres what we learned about season 10 following Comic-Con.

I can confirm this will be my final season on this amazing TV show as Michonne, Danai said.

I would just like to say that this has been one of the purest joys of my life to play this role and to be amongst these people and those who are not here right now and amongst all of you.

Im very thankful for the experience Ive had in ways I cant state right now. My heart does not leave in any way, shape or form. The Walking Dead family is forever. The connection between us never ends.

Its unknown whether Michonne will be killed off in the show, or if shell depart and be featured in the Rick Grimes movie trilogy opposite Andrew Lincoln – but a tease may have hinted towards her fate…

Theres a reason Michonne is holding Negans baseball bat Lucille

At the end of the season 10 trailer, Michonne is shown holding Lucille in a very familiar, intimidating pose reminiscent of Negans iconic scene where he killed Abraham and Glenn.

This moment wasnt simply a cool pose to whack on the end of a trailer, as showrunner Angela Kang teased during the panel.

We saw a clip of her in a mysterious pose with Lucille, Kang said. So well learn some more about that.

Im excited for people to see the depth and beauty of [Danai Guriras] work as always, and we will miss the hell out of her.

If theres one main takeaway from the trailer, its war is about to break between the survivors and Alphas Whisperers after they crossed their boundary lines.

Theres big battles scenes at Oceanside camp, after theyve possibly been driven there as the last place of safety in a bid to escape. But who will be the one to take down Alpha?

We have some new cast members

Dante is played by David Shae (Picture: AMC)

Joining the shows tenth season is three key new cast members, with the first being the previously announced David Shae as Dante – a rogueish, fast-talking, sometimes charming, sometimes annoying character who was a love interest for Maggie in the comics.

At the panel, two new additions were also announced. Kevin Carol will play new survivor Virgil, while Thora Birch will play new Whisperer Gamma.

The latter is described as someone who is very protective of Alpha in a similar vein to Beta (Ryan Hurst), so she could become a significant threat to come.

There will be a showdown between Alpha and Carol

Along with confirmation in the trailer, Melissa McBride discussed how an encounter between Carol and Alpha is long overdue.

I feel like there deserves to be one, Melissa said about a confrontation between them. Carol wants vengeance. Its hard enough to try to survive in a world where everything in the world itself the odds are against you, and you go from one day to the next trying to justify going one day to the next.

And its so hard. Why are we doing this? And then you have a human being coming in to make it all that much worse, and taking things from you. I think there should be a showdown.

She also teased how Carol is generally going rogue this season, following the death of son Henry and split from Ezekiel.

In season 10, shes leading her own fight I think in a big way, Melissa said. Also by season 10, its like Carol has been so many different types of people, every season she comes back theres been a new evolution and I think those aspects of Carol are extremely important and they make sense and they are why shes still here. Its a survival mechanism.

Negan is free and he could be very dangerous

After spending a season locked in a cell, Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) will be unleashed once again to provide help in the war against the Whisperers.

While weve seen the character show a softer side and form a bond with Judith Grimes, that doesnt necessarily mean Negan is on course to become a good guy.

Speaking about season 10, Jeffrey Dean Morgan said: Last year was a long year for Negan. Its been ten years so its a long ten years, so I think hes going to stretch his legs a bit this season certainly.

As far as the redemption arc that hes kind of been on, I think its true and people ask all the time is it real or is it an act hes putting on, I think Negans relationship with the likes of Judith is genuine as it can be. But the thing about Negan is hes always going to be Negan.

Now hes out of that cell a little bit, and as the season goes well see what happens. Hes sharp and witty and a little bit cutting with the words he has to say, and well see what happens if he gets a weapon in his hands.

But hes not going to hurt Judith I can tell you that right now.

Siddiq is having a very tough time

Avi Nash and Ryan Hurst The Walking Dead

After surviving Alphas brutal massacre, Siddiq (Avi Nash) is feeling the guilt of being the lone survivor, while also juggling the responsibility of being a father to Rositas baby.

Teasing his characters arc in season 10, Avi said: Siddiq is a little bit of a broken man and hes dealing with survivors guilt and shame and PTSD and a nightmare that never seems to end. So hes not having a great time is what I would say for him.
