Sorry, Ovie Soko fans – Parliament has rejected your petition attempts to have him win Love Island all by himself.

I know, spoil sports, right?

The basketball playing favourite has made a ton of new fans since being in the villa to the point that people were more than happy for him to bag the cash by himself instead of splitting it with whoever he was coupled up with.

Launched on July 11, the government have taken 12 days to take a look at the petition and decide that its not down to them to decide.

Looks like its back to the public vote.

Olivia Avery, the woman behind the petition, explained why she felt it was necessary in a piece written for Metro.co.uk, explaining that it started as a joke before expanding to something more.

She wrote: Ill be honest and say that I started a petition for him to win partly as a joke. The more I thought about it, however, the more genuine my feelings have become for this petition to create change.

I understand that the show is about finding love but the show has faced heavy criticism since its inception because of the message it has sent to its viewers: to find love (and potentially win money), you have to be ripped, skinny and wear loads of makeup.

The show has also had a negative impact on contestants, including the late Mike Thalassitis and Sophie Gradon, she continued.

There is no doubt in my mind that Ovie winning by himself would send a positive message.

It could show the viewers at home that being single doesnt make you less valuable than someone in a relationship and that your relationship status shouldnt determine your self-worth.

In the meantime, Ovie is busy protecting his girl after she unwillingly took centre stage in a fight between now ex-couple Jordan Hames and Anna Vakili.
