EastEnders Mick (Danny Dyer) and Linda (Kellie Bright) Carter are set to face their toughest challenge yet as Linda turns to alcohol to cope with her lifes pressures.

Working above the Queen Vic means that its all too convenient for Linda to start drinking as she balances her work and home life after a stressful couple of months.

Over 2019 alone, the pair have dealt with a terrifying health scare from Mick, who collapsed during a football game with a suspected heart problem that turned out to be panic attacks.

As well as her husband being falsely imprisoned, Linda has also had a medical scare of her own, fearing that she had cancer.

With son Ollie also being diagnosed with autism, its clear that its all becoming too much for the strong-minded matriarch, and so she hits the bottle.

Soon things could potentially end in disaster for her as her family get affected more by her actions.

Jon Sen, Executive Producer for EastEnders said:This autumn the Carters will face one of their biggest crises to date when Linda turns to alcohol to escape the increasing pressures of her family life.

Lindas descent into alcoholism will be instantly recognisable to many – a journey that begins with a single drink to cope with the everyday ups and downs but quickly escalates to a point which wreaks devastation on their life and the lives of those around them.

In telling Lindas story we hope that anyone in Lindas situation or those around them notice the signs of alcoholism and seek the help needed, they added.

In order to depict Lindas struggle as accurately and effectively as possible, the BBC has partnered up with awareness charity DrinkAware to help shape the storyline.

Elaine Hindal, Drinkaware Chief Executive, said of their involvement with the plot: Working with EastEnders on this storyline will help us put a spotlight on the potentially harmful result of getting into the habit of drinking regularly.

Lindas experiences with alcohol demonstrate why its important to be able to recognise signs that you, or someone you care about, could be developing drinking habits that could cause harm to themselves or others.
